About the certification

This Protect Plus HE/FE standard uses the controls approved by the ICO in LOCS:23 - the official Article 42 certification.

To simplify the compliance process and make it considerably more affordable, the Protect Plus scheme is modelled on the government's Cyber Essentials certification process and there is no requirement for audit - just a verification of the submitted compliance statement. As a consequence Protect Plus is NOT an official Art 42 certification but enables the same level of compliance in a more inclusive fashion.

Sector experts, Clarke & Company have further enhanced the standard including contextualising the built in guidance to ensure it is relevant to the charities sector.

In addition there are supplemental controls available if relevant that measure compliance with the ICO Children's Code.

Any HE/FE institution meeting this standard can comfortably claim compliance with the UK GDPR.

When ready the institution can optionally request Clarke & Company submit a 'Compliance Statement' to the 224 Certification team for external verification.

A certificate will be issued to the charity and they will be entered into the official Protect Plus register on successful verification.
